Top Time Management Strategies Revealed
It’s about time that I share with the world my top time management strategies.
A lot of people ask me how I’m able to get so much done even with kids- and let me tell you it isn’t easy!
In fact, I used to be probably the most inefficient person with my time ever! I would find myself constantly checking email, reading Facebook updates, and other random stuff.
A few years ago I realized that my life wasn’t going anywhere fast, and I had to change something. When I took the time to start recording what I did every day, I was SHOCKED at all the time I wasted!
One thing led to another, and in just a few days my productivity skyrocketed. This wasn’t just with my work, but also with working out and spending time with family!
So that said, here are my top time management strategies!
Strategy #1: Be Accountable
I think the very best thing I ever did was find someone to start keeping me accountable. This is important whether you’re trying to lose weight, make more money, or just about anything else you can think of!
We all like the idea of being able to do it without help- but it’s pretty much impossible. It’s too easy to get distracted by bright shiny objects and end up wasting half of the day on useless stuff!
I actually solved this problem 2 ways. The first thing I did was get a software program called Action Enforcer from Dennis Becker. This is an AWESOME time management tool that keeps me on track with my daily tasks and you can download it from the link above.
The software is extremely simple to use, so don’t be concerned about that. I’m not much of a technie, so if I can do it, anyone can!
The other thing I did was find two accountability partners- one to keep me on track with fitness and the other to help with my business. Since then, I’ve gotten in much better shape and my business has boomed!
Even though this is one of the simplest time management strategies, don’t neglect it! It works wonders!
Strategy #2: Record Everything You Do for a Week
A lot of people need time management strategies because they don’t know where their time goes.
If you’re in that boat, don’t worry- we have all been there!
An extremely helpful exercise you can try is to journal what you do every day for a week. Whether it’s 5 minutes of checking Facebook or an hour of walking with the family, record it.
This is especially helpful for the hours that you’re at work. If you spend 20 minutes writing a memo or email, write that down. If your meeting takes 2 hours, jot that down.
I guarantee you’ll be AMAZED at all of the time you waste doing certain things. For example, maybe that 2 hour meeting could have been condensed down to just 30 minutes. Or maybe the hour long trip to the gym and back can be cut in half if you just work out at home.
The main purpose of this time management strategy is to help you see how much time you’re truly wasting each day. That’s the only way you can really kick yourself into gear and start focusing on the most important things.
Strategy #3: Take a Break!
If I told you that regular breaks will help you get more done, what would you think? You might say that I’m crazy, right?
I used to think so too… until I tried it!
What I discovered is one of the weirdest time management strategies ever. When I take regular breaks, I actually get more done in the long run!
The reason for this is that you have some time to re-energize your batteries and get pumped up for the next work session. Simply going for a walk, taking a smoke break (ew) or playing with the dog for a few minutes will help you be able to focus better when you get back to work.
It really doesn’t matter what you do during your break, but I highly recommend stepping away from the computer. If you check Facebook or something, it’s kind of a break but your eyes need a break every once in a while, too!
An example of this is that I will work for 50 minutes, then take a 10 minutes break. I usually like to walk up and down the street to get the blood flowing, or do a short workout in another room.
Strategy #4: Work Out
I know this might seem funny- how is working out one of my best time management strategies?
Well something I’ve noticed is that when I exercise, I feel SO much better for the rest of the day. I have more energy, my mind is clearer, and I’m in a much happier mood!
In fact, I’ve found that if I exercise for 30 minutes to an hour, I can be productive about another 2 hours that day. In other words I’m getting healthier and I can be more productive- it’s a win-win, right?
I think this is especially important for those of us who have sedentary jobs and lifestyles. It’s too easy to get so caught up in work or relaxing that our bodies turn into soft, squishy moosh! This makes you feel even lazier, so things only continue to get worse.
Again, this is one of the top time management strategies I’ve used to help me build a six figure business! Don’t neglect it, or else I can almost guarantee you’ll be sorry for it later!
Strategy #5: Plan
This is very simple but also very powerful.
The main reason most people fail to lose weight, build a business, etc. is because they don’t plan. In other words, they just drift through each day without knowing what they have to do!
Right now, sit down and write down 3 things you want to accomplish over the next 30 days. Then write down a daily breakdown of how you will reach those goals. Whether each day requires one hour or 5, you’ll be much more likely to reach your end goals this way.
Then, simply load those daily tasks into Action Enforcer each day, work out in the A.M. to get your blood flowing, take regular breaks, and crush it!
Good luck- I hope these time management strategies help you as much as they’ve helped me!
I’ll be in touch soon!
